AU FAQ’s

Q. Do the front quarter panels need to be changed when I'm converting my bonnet from a low series (AU1 forte, futura, XR’s) to high series (series 2/3 cars non XR)?
A. No. Front quarter panels are the same on all three series.

Q. Can I fit a factory head unit from an AU1 into an AU2/3 (and vice versa)?
A. Physically it will fit, although there are issues with the steering wheel controls as somehow in the series 2/3 cars they go through the speed alert or something which isn't on the AU1’s.

Q. Do the AU centre caps fit the BA rims?
A. No, they do not fit the BA 17” rims as the hole for the centre cap is an oval shape. On the 18” rims the hole is round, but approx. 2mm smaller in diameter than the Tickford centre caps. If you want them in, you can turn the caps down to fit.

Q. Are the AU and BA wheel offsets the same?
A. Yes. All B Series rims are interchangeable with AU’s

Q. Will the XR front bar additions (AU2/3 pods or pursuit lip) fit onto the AU1 XR front bar?
A. No.

Q. Will the BA manual gear knob fit onto an AU?
A. Yes, will just need modification to the boot so it slides down further.

Q. Will the BA auto shifter fit onto an AU?
A. No. The BA button pulls the centre shaft up, whereas the AU shifter button pushes the centre shaft down. The shaft on the AU is also solid, whereas the BA is hollow. It has been done however the button no longer works and it becomes an open gate system.

Q. Will the BA scuff plates fit the AU?
A. The front ones will, the rear ones wont.

Q. Are the AU1, 2, and 3 brakes interchangeable?
A. No. The AU2/3 went to twin pot calipers from single pot so the series 1 brake system will not cope with this. Also the 2/3 rotors are larger so they are not interchangeable either.

Q. How do I program my AU2/3 smartlock to open either drivers door or all doors at once?
A. Hold down both lock and unlock for a couple of seconds until the indicators flash. Just repeat this to transfer from one to the other.

Q. Do I need to change the globes as well when replacing my side indicators with clear ones?
A. Yes. As they are clear you will now need orange globes.

Q. Can I replace my steering wheel myself?
A. Possibly. You will need a 5 pointed torx bit with a hole in the middle of it to undo the bolts holding the air bag in. these torx bits are hard to find (most are 6 pointed), and from Ford they are approx. $65! However, it will cost you this much, at least, to get Ford to swap the wheel for you.

Q. Can I fit an AU2/3 spoiler to an AU1?
A. Yes you can as the boot is obviously the same. However, if the AU1 has a spoiler that your replacing, they have larger legs on them and the stop light wire is out on the edge, this wire hole will not be covered with the thinner legged 2/3 spoilers (including T3)!! Boot needs to be resprayed to overcome this.

Q. Can I fit the AU2 XR rear bar extension to an AU1?
A. No. The AU1 rear bar is a different shape to the AU2/3 so you will need to replace the entie bar first.

Q. Can I fit an AU2/3 front bar to an AU1?
A. Yes. The AU1/2/3 grills are separate from the front bar so the actual bumpers are the same.

Q. Are there holes behind the badge?
A. There are holes behind the falcon badge on the AU1 sedan boot lid and the falcon and ford badges on all of the AU ute tailgates.

Q. Can I replace my AU1 fascia with an AU2/3?
A. Yes. But it also involves all of the a/c controls and wiring etc so it is not a simple or cheap thing to do.

Q. Can I fit a factory head unit (stereo) from an AU1 into an AU2/3 (and vice versa)?
A. Physically it will fit, although there are issues with the steering wheel controls as somehow in the series 2/3 cars they go through the speed alert or something which isn't on the AU1’s. The problem lies with pin 8 in the r/h plug, this needs to be removed if going from AU1 dash in AU 2/3
